Stella Hamberg
(b. 1975, Germany) Studied at the HFBK in Dresden (1998-2004) and was a master student of Prof. Martin Honert (2004-6). He is represented by Galerie Eigen + Art, Leipzig where he had a one-person show in 2008.She has been in numerous group shows including at Kunsthalle Düsseldorf (2008); Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden; Museum Modern Art, Denmark; Kunsthalle Mannheim (2007).

In her recent series of sculptures and drawings (including this work at auction) Stella has been interested in the relationship of the archaic and contemporary. The larger-than-life figures are Bersekers, who in Norse legend fights and no longer realizes pain. They have achieved the ability to defeat the fear of death. Stella’s drawings and sculpture have that combination of beautiful line and historicity. We see shades of Rodin and Picasso and others dropped full stop 00 years ahead.
