Thomas Hirschhorn
(b. 1957 Switzerland ) lives in Paris and received his degree at Schule für
Gestaltung, Zürich (1978-1983). For HVCCA there is no more important artist
than Hirschhorn. His seminal installation, “Laundrette” is installed
since the museum opened. It speaks eloquently and passionately to the economic
divide and resulting disenfranchisement of communities in the world. HVCCA used
the “Laundrette,” as the source of a full teaching semester for local
high school seniors. There is no more important installation artist today and
Thomas has won the 2004 Joseph Beuys-Preis and the 2000 Prix Marcel Duchamp,
among others. He has had one-person exhibits at the Tate; Centre Georges Pompidou,
Paris; Bonnefantenmuseum, Munich; Pinakothek der Moderne and others. He is represented
by Barbara Gladstone, NY and Arndt & Partner, Berlin. This new auction work is important and provocative as are all the best of Hirschhorn.
