Mike Nemire
(b. 1981, Phoenix, AZ) lives in Brooklyn, NY. In 2007 he received his MFA from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. He is represented by Galeria Janet Kurnatowski, Brooklyn, where he had a solo show this past June/July 2008. Mike has been in group shows in 2007 at Planet Thailand Brooklyn, ISE Cultural Foundation, NYC, Pratt Institute Hunter College and at HVCCA in FIRST LOOK II, an exhibit of 16 US Grad students from over 1,000 studios reviewed. His work was featured in the TIMES review (2/25/07) “Giving New Artists a Place to be Noticed.” The auction painting is characteristic of his very best paintings. These oils on canvas seem to hark back to formal op art, a rarity today. Indeed the only ones HVCCA curators have seen looking at many thousands of new grad students internationally. Each Nemire painting appears quite formal with bands of luminous colors, often reds, yellows and greens. What sets these remarkable paintings apart is that the color variations are not computer determined – they are rendered by brush and slowly worked in an intuitive process. The final work is ultimately as satisfying and enduring as a first rate landscape painting.
