John Newsom
(b. 1970, Kansas) received an MFA from NYU and BFA from RISD. Current exhibitions include a group exhibit at Marc Jancou, NYC. Upcoming shows include at Frieze Art Fair, London (10/08), Art Basel, Miami (12/08) and a solo show at Patrick Painter, spring 2009. Among some 30 group shows is a current exhibition at Patrick Painter, LA: German and American painting Since 1999. He was recently in a group show at HVCCA (2007-8): XXL – Recent Large Scale Paintings. He is represented by Patrick Painter Gallery, LA and Marc Jancou Contemporary, NYC. ART & AUCTION recently aptly wrote of Newsom’s work – “Paintings brimming with vigor and exuberance.” Indeed, John creates magnificent, bold, American paintings whose allegorical depictions of butterflies, skulls, birds, etc. are devices with which to tackle painting history. The auction work, “Timeline of a Lifetime,” is painted for this event, a major work – a musing of life over death and the continuum of time within the structure of an organic world.

John’s paintings are in worldwide demand.
