Patricia Piccinini
(b. 1965 Sierra Leone) lives in Australia. She received a BFA from the Victorian College of the Arts. She will have a solo exhibit at Yvon Lambert Gallery in 2009. Recent solo exhibits includes Artium, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain; Frye Museum, Seattle; Lismore Regional Gallery, Australia; Des Moines Art Center; Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, Sydney; Robert Miller Gallery, NY; Australian Pavilion, 50th Venice Biennale, Venice, which toured to the Hara Museum, Tokyo. She has been in scores of recent group exhibits: Brooklyn Museum; The Hague; Corcoran Museum of Art, Wash. DC; Contemporary Art Centre, Vilnius; Mass Moca; and HVCCA where she had the centerpiece in FIGURE IT OUT (2005-6). Patricia’s is a unique voice whose sculptures, photos and drawings are highly technical and always grounded in a deep concern for the future of our race. Her work is provocative and for HVCCA served as a significant teaching tool for regional students. Getaway, in the auction is arguably her most important photo – a strange scene is captured that includes some humans and her creatures in the woods. The possible continuations of the narrative are endless.
