Neo Rauch
(b. 1960 Leipzig, Germany), studied at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst
Leipzig under Professor Rink 1981-86, and a Professor there since 2005. Arguably
the best known representational painter of his generation, Neo Rauch's paintings
occupy a unique position in contemporary art. Neo merges issues concerning painting
with narrative strategies; the former reflects the enormous tradition of the
genre, and the latter seems to belong more to the novel and film. A charged interplay
between fiction and experience dominates the tableaux. He has had numerous solo
museum and gallery shows, most recently in 2008 at David Zwirner, NY, and "Para" at
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY, 2007. He is represented by Galerie EIGEN
+ ART Leipzig/Berlin
and David Zwirner, NY. In 2004 he was in HVCCA’s inaugural exhibition, Symbolic Space, and in 2007-8 at HVCCA in XXL – Recent Large Scale Painting.
