Tim Rollins
(b. 1955 Pittsfield, Maine, 1955); School of Visual Arts, NYC, B.F.A., 1978. Rollins is and always has been a teacher. This is the foundation of his groundbreaking work with minority kids in the South Bronx (K.O. S. - kids of survival). He has influenced a generation of teaching not least of which is at HVCCA where he has lectured and inspired an inner city art-teaching program. His “kids” have gone on to major schools of higher education. Tim and K.O.S. have had scores of solo shows including at Jay Gorney; Mary Boone; Rhona Hoffman; and museums: ICA, Boston; Dia Art Foundation, NYC; Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford; Museum fur Gegenwartskunst, Basel; LAMOCA; Hirshhorn, Washington, DC; Berkeley Museum. He has had hundreds of lectureships. This season he will have an exhibit at Lehmann Maupin Gallery, NYC and a forthcoming retrospective at The Tang Museum in Saratoga Springs. Tim and K.O.S. made this work for the auction.
