BACK PACK ART

Once a month we will post an art activity for you to do with your children. The art lessons are related to the current exhibition at HVCCA ‘After the Fall.’ We encourage you to come and visit the exhibition in person.

The art activity is done with easily available art supplies available in many stores in the neighborhood. Questions about procedure will be addressed in the plan as well as how you can help your child to be creative. We may use some unusual materials or techniques—on purpose—helping us think about the art and see it in a different way rather than using the same old formulas we’ve all used before.

A folk tale/story is included to read and inspire creativity. These stories come from the same region as our exhibition. Compare these stories to ones you know already or those from another culture. Do the differences make you see the story in a new light? How? Discuss this with your children. Their answers may inform you on the way they think and what they think about.

This activity is a complete lesson or a starting point. The lessons can take an hour or can expand to several sessions.
