Continuing the festivities of Peekskill Project 6, the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art is proud to announce the premiere of the performance, “Los Raros” by Pablo Helguera at the Paramount Theater, in Peekskill NY, on Sunday November 8th, at 3 pm.
“Los Raros” (The Irregulars) is a performance by Pablo Helguera paying homage to the work of two writers influential to the artist’s work: Luis Ignacio Helguera (1961-2003), the artist’s brother, and the Uruguayan Felisberto Hernández (1902-1964). In 2001, both Helguera brothers were involved in the publication of a literary magazine in Mexico City known as “Paréntesis”, of which the first issue, illustrated by Pablo Helguera, was titled “Los Raros”, focusing on the work of unusual writers. The short stories of both Hernández and Luis Ignacio Helguera have a narrative quality that seemingly separates the viewer from reality and into a world of daydreaming. Helguera will present a work by his brother, “Viveros”, accompanied by “Except Julia” by Hernández, and a short story of his own titled “Casa Plarre”.
Pablo Helguera (Mexico City, 1971) is a visual and performance artist living in New York.
