Gallery Talk
Photographer Richard Falco will give a lecture and image presentation entitled "Witness to Our Times" on Sunday June 29th, 2008 at 3:00 p.m on the social, cultural and historical value of documentary work. Images will be drawn from Rick's photo assignments on four different continents and 35 countries. The subject matter includes hunger and rice production in Asia, the World Trade Center bombing, AIDs, war and famine, witchcraft, travel and culture. The discussion will also highlight the use of the camera as a personal voice, the business of journalism, and how technology and the digital age change the way we work.

About the Artist
Since 1977, Richard Falco has worked as a photographer in New York. He has traveled throughout the world, working on assignments in Asia, Africa, Europe and the United States. Photographs by Mr. Falco have appeared in Life, Newsweek, Time, Business Week, New York Times, National Geographic Society, People, and elsewhere. He authored two books, To Bear Witness - September 11 and Medics: A Documentation of Paramedics in the Harlem Community. An award winner at the Society of Publication Designers, his work has been exhibited in the Corcoran Gallery, Washington, DC; International Center of Photography, NY; Nikon Galleries, Tokyo, New York Historical Society, NY, & others.

Mr. Falco has some twenty years of teaching experience. He has taught and lectured at the New School of Social Research, the School of Visual Arts, Purchase College, the Art Workshop at the State University of New York, Sacred Heart University, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops and elsewhere.

Mr. Falco is president of Vision Project, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the development of documentary photography and related fields of research and investigation. The goal of Vision Project is to produce documentary material and educational programs that encourage understanding and awareness of social issues.
