SPECIAL EVENTS
Free Arts Day
Sunday
December 7th, 2008

The Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art will host a Free Arts Day on Sunday December 7th, 2008 from 12:00-6:00pm. Arts lovers of all ages will be welcomed by open doors at cultural sites throughout the county on the Westchester Arts Council's eighth annual Free Arts Day. The event gives participating organizations the opportunity to give back to their communities with a gift of art during this unforgettable day of free arts events. HVCCA will offer free admission all day and will present the following events:
- 2:00pm: Docent Tour of ORIGINS exhibition led by HVCCA President / Co-Founder Dr. Livia Straus. ORIGINS presents major works by 30 artists from 15 countries using natural materials: clay, ash, fiber, wood and soil including Magdalena Abakanowicz, Carl Andre, Huma Bhabha, Louise Bourgeois, Anselm Kiefer, Zhang Huan, Richard Long, Kiki Smith, Mierle Ukeles and Franz West.
- 3:00pm: Special music performance by the Westchester Symphonic Winds clarinet quartet featuring Claudia Mickelson, Rocco Polera, Daniel Salvi and Curt Ebersole and a saxophone quartet featuring Ed Herko, Ed Herko, Jr., Tom Sweezey and Daniel Chiplock.
- 4:00pm: Public Tile Project Award Presentation: The Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art was recently awarded a $20,000 grant from the Consulate General of the Netherlands New York (CGNY) for its children’s outreach program The Public Tile Project. The check will be presented by Robert Kloos, Director of Visual Arts, Architecture and Design (CGNY) and HVCCA President / Co-Founder Dr. Livia Straus.
- 4:30pm: Gallery talk with HVCCA'S 2008 Artist-in-Residence Karen Sargsyan: The artist began a three-month residency in October, during which he has worked to produce an intricate site-specific sculptural installation for his new exhibition "Abroad Understanding" scheduled to open Sunday February 8th, 2009.
