Friday July 25th, 2008 at
6:00pm
Featured Speakers:
Drs. Marc and Livia Straus - Collectors & Founders: Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art With
property values in a slump and the stock market stumbling, art prices
are soaring – 80 million for a Francis bacon painting. Artists
from every country and continent, many who would not have imagined,
till now, are supporting themselves through their craft and enriching
the art world through their imaginative and creative energy. This
is an exciting time for the public, for artists, for collectors,
galleries and museums. It is also a time where the value placed on
particular works of art seems not to be an issue, where the sky is
the limit. In this atmosphere, how does one approach collecting?
Is it a labor of love? Is it an investment? How does one get access
to works? This and more will be touched upon in this presentation
and discussion. $5 Adults, $4 Seniors/Educators, $2 Students/Children, FREE HVCCA Members ABOUT THE EXHIBITION Size Matters: XXL – recent large-scale paintings, the second installment of a two-part exhibition investigating scale in contemporary painting, opened to the public with rave reviews on Sunday, September 16, 2007.
